We do what we do as missionaries supported by people like you.

We also prefer to give away as much content as we can, and not cloud that issue with a lot of public requests. That said, we do have specific needs that are met by people who believe the work we do has value.

Randomonium – What the Heck Edition

Every once in a while, you have those moments that make you cock your head 45 degrees like Nipper, as if to say “What the heck?”. That was every day of my week.

Monday’s What the Heck was the opportunity to connect with some very dear friends from playaworld. I flew to San Francisco where I spent the afternoon with them. The chance came out of the blue and my dear wife agreed I should go even though we were in the midst of a move.

Tuesday’s What the Heck was flying standby and getting home six hours early with no out of pocket costs. That never happens to me. I found inner healing towards United Airlines after this horrible incident in 2004.

Wednesday’s What the Heck was the installation of the countertops in our kitchen. After agonizing through the selection process, so much time had passed that I forgot what we’d ordered. When I came home to see it, it was as if I’d never seen that countertop before in my life.

Thursday proceeded without a What the Heck…until around 8pm, when Kelsey grabbed a very hot pan on our stove, burning her right hand pretty badly. She was unable to do her regular 10pm set at IHOP, so we needed to find a replacement. She fell asleep with the hand on ice but is much better now.

Friday’s What the Heck was a stellar meeting of the leadership of TheCall. Props to Brian Kim for laying out a ‘this is how we will conduct ourselves’ presentation that left us both energized and sobered. I think Brian Kim is beyond cool and take full credit for bringing him to IHOP-KC, even though I know that’s not remotely true. FACTOID: Kelsey and I did the premarital counseling for Brian and Grace, and they dated for weeks before she could get used to calling him Brian. It was like BrianKim was one word.

Saturday’s What the Heck: Soccer games rained out again. Our kids have had more games cancelled than played this year. Their jerseys and shin guards look brand new.

Sunday – wow. What do I say? Once in a while, you find yourself involved with a cause that you love, with tasks that you love, alongside people that you love, and what you do seems nothing like work. That’s The Zoe Foundation for me right now. We had a table host leaders’ open house for our Kansas City Vision/Fundraiser night (register here to attend!) and had a BLAST with our team. They astound me by taking our goofy ideas and pulling them off with far more class, efficiency, and effectiveness than we first imagined the ideas could have. What the heck.
